Hi everyone, I wrote to Randall privately, but thought I'd throw this out
for discussion. I basically told him:
I lean against splash pages in the first place. What purpose do they serve?
How do they give users what they want, which is usually specific information
in a minimal amount of
time? No matter how neat and cool, if I want to know about a site and they
give me a Flash splash, I skip it. Now if I want to watch Web cartoons or
presentations, that's another thing. Splash pages try to push in what's so
far a "pull" medium. I think Flash is utilized best in guided tours, demos,
etc., but if and only if people request it. Just my thoughts, you may want
to do some research at www.useit.com. I also talked to a good friend of mine
who's a really good Flash guy in Tucson, he agree wholeheartedly. He HATES
Flash splash pages and always skips them. Anyway, just thought I'd throw it
out for discussion.
