IMHO, a well-designed Flash movie or site can do any and all of the
following:
1. Explain features and benefits visually
2. Generate excitement and marketing buzz
3. Showcase a service (for example, Flash design)
4. Enhance the overall user-experience significantly
5. Other cool things which I'm sure have been or will be mentioned in this
thread.
My personal opinion is that unless you are doing a teaser site or have a
completely new product or service to showcase, Flash is better used within
the site rather than for a splash page (i.e. a demo of a product or service
within the site). The other side of that is to create your site completely
in Flash, understanding of course that you have to give your visitors the
option of entering a Flash site or an HTML version. There is nothing worse
than having to suffer through a Flash site download on a slow dial-up
connection, and nothing better than a very well designed Flash site on a
broadband connection.
Of course, that's just my $.02.
